If you teach students about author’s purpose, you probably already know about the acronym pie (persuade, inform, entertain) and the related cutesy anchor. Does it look a bit different than the author’s purpose approach your are used to seeing? How do we make the switch to the new(ish) terms for ccss?

An author’s purpose pie worksheet effectively introduces the three primary reasons for writing—persuade, inform, and entertain—through engaging activities. Are you a pie person? Then, use this model to analyze and discuss the author’s purpose of a text and how he/she “built it”.
